In the beging of the article, there was something mentioned in there about about a tragic crime of cyanide- tainted Tylenol. It triggered a panic over trick or treating, thus began the era of proctecting your child.
Then I found an article about what happed that year. (Look at link on page).
It was talking about how the company almost lost its bussines. Thanks to Johnson and Johnson, they helped Tylenol from losing their company by introducing the plastic covering for packaging. I never knew that they the Johnson company brought that along because I would take medicine and wonder why we have the plastic wrapping on the medicine and also on food. At first I did not know how this was a problem to trick or treating, but then I realized that we have candy that, I believe, that did not get packaged up compared to now how they protect the candy from getting contaminated.
It is some what hard to give much opion on this topic, but it cought my eye because there was a similar inccident in New York where I used to live. The pixi sticks were very popular and all the kids loved them, then towards halloween, somebody decided to contaminate the candy scarying the parents almost cancelling halloween for the year. Then you had the anthrax in the mail boxes an few years ago before the candy making the problem worse, or basicly scaring the parents more than they should over their kids.
I am wondering what would have happened to the Tylenol company if the Johnson company didn't come to save them. But in the article, it said their contamination happened again because of some metal pieces in their machinery. I would have guessed Tylenol would have been destryoed after that.
